Corona relief

As the virus COVID 19 has a worldwide effect, Nepal is having real troubles trying to support their people. From 24th of March, the government decided to go into complete lockdown to fight the virus. This meant that no one was allowed to go out on the streets.

Many people lost their jobs, do not have savings since the salary here will not allow you to save and  were struggling to pay for their food. Many people were stuck in the big city with high costs of living without any income or help from the government.

After the first month of lockdown INSPIREnepal has been helping people with their food supplies. Families that had no income or savings and were struggling to feed their families, received our food packages. The packages contained the bare necessarities as we chose to help as many families as possibly within the donations we received. The food packages contained 25kg rice, lentils, salt, oil and soaps, which the families can use for 1 month and is worth of 20 euro a package.

We received many phone calls and messages from families struggling. Although the lockdown and its affects are still there and we will continue the relief, we have helped so far over 200 families with food supplies.

As Nepal relies on tourism, it will be sure that this year and the next season will be very tough. A lot of businesses as collapsed and people are moving back to villages because rents are too expensive in Kathmandu. Financial support will be needed even after the lockdown is lifted as jobs will not be easy to find.

Earthquake relief

25-4-2015 is a day that will never be forgotten for many Nepalese. The earthquake has caused a lot of damage in several areas. Many Nepalese have lost their home, friends or family and sacred temples. Even to this day, people are rebuilding houses and trying to leave the scare of the earthquake behind.

After the earthquake we have mainly been helping to clear all the rubbles and breaking down houses brick by brick. We saved the bricks so that the owners could reuse their bricks and save money for building a new house.

We built a shelter for a old lady in Bungamati that had lost her house, husband and son in the earthquake and became alone and homeless. With the help of volunteers and donations we were able to built her a shelter and even decorate it a little. We have been visiting her till now and she is still living in our handmade shelter.

We organized some sportdays at the camp of the earthquake victims to entertain the children and give them some ways to release their anxiety and tension. We did some songwriting with a children’s home about their feelings after the earthquake. We have used creative activities to help cope after the earthquake.

Thankga Mandala Painting

Thangkas are Tibetan mandalas that have many meanings and are made with precision and passion.

The duration of the course depends on your wishes, you can make it as long or short as you want. To create a mandala you need at least one week in which you paint six days a week for an entire day. This sounds like a lot of hard work, which it is, but oh so worthy!

thangka painting

The picture above is an example of the mandala that you will be making. Every color has a meaning and all the figures have the same size. They will explain the meaning of the colors and figures, so you can adjust it to your interest and learn about Tibetan art. It is an artistic challenge! Imagine having your own mandala up on your wall to admire every day and to think back of your days in Nepal!

The price depends on your location and teacher. It will cost approximately 500 Nepali rupees per hour.

Included: Teacher – equipment – explanation – learn to prepare the canvas and the paint.
